“Vladimir Putin wants to stop fighting”: Donald Trump says he can meet the Russian president very soon

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he could meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin “very soon” and believes that Putin wants to stop fighting in Ukraine.
“Not a time has been set, but that may be soon,” Trump told reporters. His statement came hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reduced the expectations of high -level talks in Riyadh, which aims to end the war.
Rubio leads an American delegation to Saudi Arabia, where discussions will take place with Russian officials. These talks come at a time when the Ukraine war is approaching the third anniversary.
Trump said his team had extensive discussions with Russian officials, including his Middle East envoy Steve Witkeov, who recently met Putin for three hours.
“I think he wants to stop fighting,” Trump said.
When asked if he believed that Putin wanted to take over all Ukraine, Trump replied, “This was my question to him. If he would continue … he would have caused me a big problem.”
“I think he wants to end it, and they want to end it quickly. Both,” he added. “Zelenskyy wants to end it too.
Ukrainian President Folodimir Zelinski said on Sunday that Russia may be preparing for a “war warfare” against NATO if Trump reduces the US support for the coalition.
Trump rejected Zelinski’s comments, saying he was “not even a little.”
Trump previously said he would end Ukrainian conflict In one day if he was re -elected, but Rubio said that the war resolving “will not be easy.”
“A process towards peace is not one of the conditions,” Rubio told CBS at the Munich Security Conference.
The state of negotiations
Rubio will lead the American team to his head, but it is unclear whether Ukraine will participate. He also said he was not sure that Russia would send.
“This has not yet been completed,” said Rubio. The goal is to open a broader conversation “that will include Ukraine and will include the end of the war.”
Witkoff and US National Security Adviser are also expected to attend conversations.
Trump and Putin spoke on Wednesday in a long phone call, and they agreed to start Stop negotiations Immediately. The invitation was unexpected for NATO allies and Ukraine, as Zelinski insisted that there should not be “decisions on Ukraine without Ukraine.”
“At the present time, there is no operation,” said Rubio after his conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. “One phone call does not make peace.”
In an interview with NBC on Sunday, Zelenskyy said that Putin cannot be trusted as a negotiating partner.
“I am not thinking about political geography, anyone must trust anyone,” said Rubio. “The next few weeks and days will determine whether (Putin) is dangerous or not.”
