Trump says Canada is not sovereign – RT World News

The country is “completely dependent” on the United States, and would be better off as a 51st country, the US president argued

US President Donald Trump has vowed not to allow Canada “Take advantage” of the United States, again saying that he wants to make the 51st country in neighboring America. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump said Canada would not exist without US subsidies and business cooperation.

Trump made similar comments in the run-up to his inauguration earlier this month, suggesting his administration could make Canada part of the United States. Ottawa has rejected these suggestions.

“Canada has been taking advantage of the United States for years. We will not let that happen.” Trump told reporters.

“Without our support, Canada does not truly exist. Canada is completely dependent on us and therefore must be a country.” He said. Trump accused Canada “Treating us unfairly on trade,” Claiming that the United States loses $250 billion a year to the neighboring country in trade deficit, while Canada does “Nearly 90% of their business is with the United States.”

“I could stop that in one day, and if I stopped that, Canada wouldn’t exist as a country…I don’t want to spend hundreds of millions of dollars supporting a country unless that country is a country,” he said. He said.

According to Trump, Canada would benefit from becoming part of the United States.

“If it were a state, the people of Canada would pay a lot less tax. Their taxes would be cut in half… They would get much better treatment, much better care,” he declared, adding that Canadians would too “You have no military problems” and “It will be safer in every way.”

“I think it’s great for Canada… I consider it, frankly, a country that should be a country,” he said. Trump said.
