The tragic final photo of Greta Otteson and her beloved fiancé shows the couple riding a ‘Welsh red’ motorbike just hours before their deaths.
The bodies of the 33-year-old Briton and her South African fiancé Arno Els, 36, will be found three days later, after they are believed to have drunk toxic limoncello at their Vietnamese villa.
In a photo taken on December 23, the couple appears smiling and standing next to a red motorcycle they just bought.
But tragically they were found in separate rooms a few hours later on Boxing Day after drinking poison on Christmas Eve.
It is believed the couple ordered two “home-made” bottles of the classic Italian drink from a local restaurant, but did not know the drink was laced with methanol.
This business is said to be very popular in the area and a photo of their menu online shows that they serve lemonade at a cheap price.
The shot costs just 85,000 VND (£2.70) and, according to the menu, it’s homemade.
The next day, Otteson called her parents and told them she had a terrible headache and black spots in her vision.
A local friend tried to take them to hospital, but tragically they were refused.
In a statement submitted to The timesOtteson’s parents, Susan and Paul, described their only child as “beautiful”.
They said: “Both Greta and Arno were experienced world travelers. They found their perfect home and were very happy with their life in Vietnam, and are planning for the future.”
“We were very happy that she chose Arno. He was a lovely boy. Arno was a great musician, composer and lyricist.
“They bought a used bike and were so proud. Make sure it’s red for Wales,” Susan told Greta.
Susan and Paul now want to bring the people who supplied limoncello containing methanol to justice.
They say they have full confidence that Vietnamese authorities will conduct a thorough investigation.
The parents said Vietnamese police told them that an autopsy confirmed the cause of death was methanol poisoning.
The restaurant where the alcohol was purchased reportedly remains open.
Susan and Paul traveled to Vietnam for cremation earlier this month and returned to Bahrain with the ashes.
This came just three weeks after the duo shared a touching video on YouTube announcing their engagement.
The couple arrived at the property in July and signed up for long-term temporary accommodation in the villa, which costs £105 a night.
Cops say there was no sign of external trauma on the bodies, their villa was not ransacked, and their phones were not touched.
Friends have since paid tribute to the much-loved couple following their shocking deaths.
One said: “Greta loved Arnault unconditionally and was his bedrock, giving him the freedom to do what he needed to do without a faltering foundation.
“Two things that stand out in my thoughts are her laugh and their constant love [threw] To each other, no matter who was around them.
“They celebrated each other there, and I know they will continue to do so wherever they are.”
Arno’s friend, Dale Visser, thanked his “fierce friend”, saying: “You were real and lived a life harder than most people could ever dream of.”
“I love you and will always miss you.”
Tragically, methanol poisoning is also what killed backpackers in Laos just a month ago.
Laos police took swift action after six backpackers were killed by vodka containing methanol in November.
They closed the factory where the drinks were made after travelers drank the alcoholic Tiger Vodka while at Nana Backpackers Hostel.
Eight employees were also arrested after they refused to call an ambulance for dying guests.
Among the victims were Danish friends Anne-Sophie Orkild Kooijman, 20, and Freya Wienerwald, 21, who died after being left “vomiting blood” for 13 hours.
