The Weeknd cancels Rose Bowl concert and postpones album due to Los Angeles fires

The Weeknd said Monday that he has canceled his scheduled Jan. 25 concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena “out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County” as deadly wildfires continue to wreak havoc in the area.

The concert was part of the launch of The Weeknd’s new album Hurry tomorrowwhich was scheduled to be released on January 24. It will now hit shelves on January 31, the four-time Grammy winner announced today.

A new date for the concert has not been announced, with ticket holders asked to check with Ticketmaster or other outlets for refunds.

“This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone affected at this time,” the singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, wrote on social media. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and helping their amazing people as they rebuild,” he added.

The Rose Bowl is currently being used as a staging area for the city of Pasadena fire and police departments and other regional agencies for emergency response efforts to the Eaton Fire, which broke out Tuesday in nearby Altadena.

A total of 14,117 acres have burned in Altadena, Pasadena and parts of the Sierra Madre, with 11 people killed so far and 1,902 structures destroyed. As of Monday afternoon, the fire was 33% contained.
