The “Severance” author explains Keanu Reeves’ vocal cameo

Series creator Dan Erickson recently explained how Keanu Reeves came to provide a cameo in the role of Building during the “Lumon is Listening” video in the Season 2 premiere of the Apple TV+ sci-fi series.

“All I can say is that we talked about two different people for this role,” he said. Collider. “We always wanted him to be someone that people relate to in a certain way, but also, his presence had to be very warm. The Lumon building is very approachable in the context of this video, and there’s a friendliness to that particular voice and a heart to that particular voice.”

In addition to Scott, Brett Lauer, Trammell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Gene Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dechen Lachman, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, Patricia Arquette, and new series regular Sarah Bock also star.

Erickson previously spoke to Deadline about how changes in the corporate world have affected the show’s plot since season one. “It’s funny because we released Season 1 when people were starting to go back to the office. At the same time, there were some jobs where people were saying, ‘Hey, maybe we don’t have to go back to the office.'” He said, “Maybe this will be something where we can… “For people to work from home.”

“So this was an unexpected context in which we shot Season 1,” Erickson added. “But since then, we’ve seen the great resignation, where a lot of people, especially young people, are saying, ‘Hey, does work need to play the role it always has in our lives?’ Or is there another way to do this? But then, of course, the question is: “Well, what’s on the other side of that?” You can break with the old order, but what is the new order? It’s a great time to be alive because people are trying to figure it out.
