The release date for “The Penguin Lessons” has been set by Sony Pictures Classics
Sony Pictures Classics has announced that it will release its own drama film Penguin Lessonsstarring Academy Award nominees Steve Coogan (Philomena(and Jonathan Pryce)Popes), in theaters nationwide on March 28.
The film is scheduled to open against Focus Features’ Sundance entry Wallis Island poemStarring Carey Mulligan. International horror and thriller film Woman in the yard,A24 The death of a rhinocerosStarring Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd; The Jason Statham action thriller is produced by Amazon MGM Working manamong other titles.
Based on Tom Michell’s 2016 memoir of the same name, Penguin Lessons The film is based on the true story of a disillusioned Englishman who goes to work in a school in Argentina in 1976. Expecting an easy ride, Tom (Coogan) discovers a divided nation and a class of unteachable students. However, after he rescues a penguin from an oil-filled beach, his life is turned upside down.
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last year, and is written by BAFTA Award-winner Jeff Pope (Stan and Ollie) and directed by Peter Cattaneo, the Oscar nominee behind titles like Military wives and Full monty. Vivian Al Jaber (Guabas), Bjorn Gustafsson (spy) and Alfonsina Caroccio (Snow Association) Round out the cast.
