A multi -agent search and rescue process is taking place in the Botomac River after the air collision
A civilian plane carrying 60 passengers and four crew collided with a Black Hawk helicopter in the US military over the Botomac River in Washington, DC, on Wednesday.
The accident occurred at about 9 pm local time. The flight was 5342, which is run by PSA – a subsidiary of the US Airways – for its final approach to runway 33 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport at the time of the disaster, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The Sikorsky H-60 of the US Army’s Black Hwk had a crew and was not carrying any personalities of VIPs, according to US defense officials. The exact number of deaths remains unclear as emergency staff continues with multiple agencies to search for potential survivors.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced that the Rigan Washington National Airport was temporarily closed after the accident. The National Transport Safety Council (NTSB) will lead an investigation into the accident.
