The German far-right party wants to limit the role of Chinese companies in ports and digital networks

The far-right Alternative for Germany party is calling for limiting the involvement of Chinese companies in seaports and digital infrastructure in Germany.

After a discussion among delegates at a national party conference in Riesa, a town in the eastern state of Saxony, the AfD adopted demands for it to be included in the party’s election manifesto.

“In general, seaports are part of critical infrastructure and should therefore remain under German control,” said the proposal approved by delegates.

Another approved proposal said: “We reject the participation of Chinese companies, which are de facto under the control of the Chinese Communist Party, in the expansion of digital infrastructure in Germany.”

Opponents of the demands said Chinese companies should not be widely condemned. In addition, they said it would be difficult for the German mobile network to operate without technology coming from China.
