The Berlin Film Festival is awaiting consultation BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions Director Khalil Joseph and the project’s co-financier, before deciding whether the planned picture could be shown during this year’s Berlinale.
Festival launch BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions, Video artist Joseph’s feature debut was complicated this morning after it was announced that the co-star had pulled the project from its premiere slot at Sundance.
Reports indicate that the poster pulled the photo after learning that Joseph had made a second version of the film, which was submitted to film festivals, including Berlin. We understand that the festival is waiting to speak with Joseph and the participant before making a final decision. BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions It is set to be shown at Berlin’s “Horizons” sidebar to showcase fantasy films for the first time. We have reached out to representatives of the participants and Joseph to obtain their official responses. We will update the report when we hear back.
The film’s official tagline reads: “The magnum opus of prominent West African curator and researcher Funmilayo Akechukwu, resonance field, He leads her into the heart of the Atlantic Ocean, drawing the journalist on a journey that shatters her understanding of consciousness and time.
BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions Produced by Onye Anyanwu, Amy Greenleaf and Nic Gonda. Joseph is the director, writer and producer. He co-wrote the project with renowned academics and cultural critics Irvin Hunt and Saidia Hartmann. Hartmann is the author of many pioneering works of cultural and historical criticism such as Scenes of Submission and Prodigal Life, Beautiful Experiences. Her work has been closely associated with Joseph and other experimental video artists such as Venice Golden Lion winner Arthur Java.
The Berlin Film Festival takes place from February 13 to 23.
