Keke Palmer and Issa Rae talk ‘One Day’ and working with SZA
While sitting down, Issa Rae and Keke Palmer explain the story of “One Of Them Days.” According to the cast, the film is inspired by the experiences of Syritta Singleton’s friend. Furthermore, the film focuses largely on the effects of gentrification. But it focuses on two friends — played by Keke Palmer and SZA — “trying to make ends meet.”
During her speech, Palmer talked about her chemistry with SZA and how that translates to the screen.
“I think it’s natural that we have the same feeling.” Palmer explained. “We met in person for the first time at SNL [Saturday Night Live]… After that, we met on film and … we had natural chemistry. “I can’t even explain it.”

As for off-screen relationships, Palmer shared that the “craziest” moments she experienced in her friend’s detention were when she moved on to her partner and her partner’s mother. On the other hand, Ray said she pretended to be a doctor to create a minor medical scare for a friend’s partner.
