Leslie Charlson, who played Monica Quartermaine General Hospital Nearly 50 years ago, he died. She was 79 years old.
Charleson’s death was announced Sunday on the ABC daytime drama series’ Instagram account. This advertisement was attributed to General Hospital Executive producer Frank Valentini.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dear friend and colleague Leslie Charlson,” Valentini’s statement read. “Her lasting legacy has spanned nearly 50 years General Hospital In her own right, just as Monica was the heart of the Quartermaines, Leslie was a beloved mother to all the cast and crew. I will miss our daily conversations, her quick wit and her amazing presence on set. On behalf of everyone in general hospital, “My heartfelt sympathies are with her loved ones during this difficult time.”
The cause of death was not determined, although she had been suffering from the disease for some time.
Charleson played Quartermaine, a hospital cardiologist who had appeared on the series since 1977. For her role, she received four Daytime Emmy Awards nominations as well as two Soap Hub nominations and four Soap Opera Digest nominations. In 2010, it was reported to have become a recurrent condition. She has continued to appear on the show, with her final appearance in December 2023, making her the longest-serving cast member on the show.
Born on February 22, 1945, she began her career on an ABC daytime soap opera. A flame in the wind in 1964. Two years later, she appeared on As the world turns Then from 1967 to 1973 she was part of the cast of the CBS soap Love is a wonderful thing.
Her other early credits include guest starring roles on Wild West, Adam-12, Emergency!, Manx, Ironside, Happy Days, Marcus Welby, MD and Rockford Files.
During her career, she also appeared in a 1973 science fiction film dolphin day, With Shelley Winters in the 1971 TV movie revenge! and with Deirdre Hall in the 1993 TV movie Woman on edge.
Most recently, she guest-starred on Dharma and Greg (2001) and beyond friends (2004).
