‘Reagan’ isn’t diverse enough for the Oscars

Reagan had a slim chance of winning an Oscar this year.
The 2024 film received scathing reviews from critics, who lean heavily to the left. Some film writers have included the film on their “worst of 2024” lists. This is despite the impressive tear 98% “fresh” Classification of audiences.
Whatever slim hopes the film had of getting a Best Picture nomination were wiped out in the DEI shot. The film was ruled ineligible for the grand prize because it did not meet the Academy Awards’ new diversity requirements.
The rules in question arose from the flames of the 2020 BLM protests. Proposed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Diversity mandateswhich took effect last year, requires best picture winners to check multiple progressive boxes.
example? The film must feature a diverse cast or address topics related to marginalized groups. Clearly, Jews are not eligible.
Clearly, Reagan did not check enough boxes. And she is not alone. TheWrap.com reported that 116 films were released last year The picture quality was not the best.
Not all of these films fail the diversity test. Some may not meet other criteria, including:
“…feature films must open in a commercial movie theater in at least one of the six metropolitan areas in the United States: Los Angeles County; New York City; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia, between 1 January 2024 and December 31, 2024, and complete the minimum qualifiers for seven consecutive days in the same location. Feature films must be longer than 40 minutes.”
Others were pushed aside, like Reagan.
Actor Richard Dreyfuss is one of the few stars to publicly criticize diversity measures. He said the new rules made him want to vomit.
“Reagan” earned $30 million During its theatrical release despite terrible reviews.
