Radio Times names Kate McCann as breakfast co-presenter

Radio Times political editor Kate McCann has been appointed as co-presenter of the station’s breakfast programme.

The appointment is one of a number to be made as Times Radio aims to be the ‘Voice of the Times’ in 2025.

McCann succeeds Asma Mir who has been co-presenting the show from 6am to 10am with Stage Appel since the station’s launch in June 2020.

She was previously political editor at TalkTV, which is also owned by News UK, a political correspondent for Sky News and a senior political correspondent for The Daily Telegraph. McCann will start in his new role on February 3.

Tim Leavell, Radio Times program director, said: ā€œKate McCann was exceptional as a political editor. Listeners appreciate her credibility, clarity and authority. Her interviews have made some of the biggest headlines of 2024. Kate is the perfect choice to make the Times Radio Breakfast agenda setting and a must listen.

Radio Times also revealed that Andrew Neil will host one week each month from 1pm to 2pm.

Neil joined The station Last year with the remit to present the agenda around the elections in the United Kingdom and the United States. He joined months earlier than originally scheduled due to Rishi Sunak calling the election in July instead of the autumn.

Neil said: ā€œI am delighted to renew and continue my association with Times Radio, which continues to go from strength to strength. The need for informed, unbiased, high-quality analysis of current events has never been greater, and Times Radio is the ideal platform on which to deliver that analysis.ā€

When Neil is not around, the 1pm show will be hosted by a rotating list of presenters including Sir Trevor Phillips, Times columnist Daniel Finkelstein and Times political newsletter editor Lara Spirit.

Times Radio also announced that comedian Geoff Norcott would join to host the Friday 7pm-10pm programme, and that former Conservative MP Ed Vaizey would be given a permanent Friday morning show, while it said earlier this month that columnist at The Sunday Times’ Rod Liddle will host the Saturday morning show. . Adam Bolton, co-host of McCann’s Sunday morning political show, will continue without her.

ā€œIn 2025, Times Radio is committed to being the voice of the Times, delivering intelligent, in-depth and engaging news coverage and debate,ā€ Leavell said. Our enhanced lineup of presenters brings together a diverse range of voices, ensuring our listeners receive a broad range of perspectives, analysis and expert opinions. And with great names all day long, we’re excited about the future of Radio Times.
