Pakistani Prime Minister orders investigation into national airline advertisement resembling September 11 images

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered an investigation into an advertisement by Pakistan’s national airline bearing images similar to the September 11 attacks.

The announcement by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was a signal to resume its flights to EU countries after the EU lifted a four-year ban on the airline last November, which was imposed over multiple safety concerns.

A post shared by the airline on X on January 10 – the same day it resumed flights to the European Union – shows an image of a PIA plane flying towards the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, drawing condemnation from netizens for its evocation of the 2001 attacks in New York.

The caption read: “Paris, we are coming today.”

“Is this a threat?” “This campaign has been labeled 9/11,” one user said in a post on X. Another user mocked the PIA ad, saying: “This campaign has been labeled 9/11.”
