“One million dollars in a hotel” – strange, misunderstanding and unforgettable

WIM WENDERS “The Million Dollaar Hotel” (2000) begins with one of the most amazing open serials that I have ever seen.

We withdraw, or rather, soften across the sparkling Los Angeles horizon. The camera roams it into a huge mark of a million dollars.

On the surface, stands beside the tomated toma, which is played by Jeremy Davis. Tom Tom is suddenly divided into the enemy race, takes a moment for the wave of someone outside the camera and then dives from the edge. What all this means will not be clear to the end.

Then the story dates back to the early year, when Tom Tom was just one of dozens of strange, sad and lost tenants living in the hotel. By the way, the preparation is real: it was filmed inside the Roslyn Hotel million dollars in Los Angeles, where the U2 was filmed while singing “where there is no name” in the streets “in the music video.

We know that a tenant named Izzy Goldkiss (Tim Ruth Ruth) was recently killed, which explains the sudden appearance of the JD Skinner, FBI (Mel Gibson). To be more specific, Gibson plays his role in a little madness and his operator with a huge neck support.

Only Tom Tom knows the secret behind Easy’s death and he does not tell anyone. Tom Tom, in his child -like manner, is very busy focusing on his fragmentation towards Elweiz, who is not the beautiful next next Mila Juvenic.

Here is a real strangeness, whether in her story and reputation- her, which is a type directed from Wenders Bender, which he wrote at least partially from Bono of U2, and the Gibson starring at the height of his fame (new from “what women want”) and is characterized by a wonderful collection of the wonderful band and points Samia’s song from Bono and Brian Eno (among others).

Why did you not hear about it?

Winters’s movie appeared for the first time at the 2000 Berlin Film Festival. This was followed by a confusing response, bad and even negative audio reviews from Gibson (which made it clear that it was somewhat unless he realized that he was in the record when he was called, “boring like a dog”) .

While he found an audience abroad, “The Million Dollaar Hotel” died at a quick death, as he barely played on one weekend.

It is possible that the perpetrator to issue witness protection in the film and evaluate some various critics? The film, in a moderate phrase, strange with a beard.

People have told me over the years that they hate the movie. Get it, as it wanders and frustrates often, especially during the first verb.

The other main tenants at the hotel play Gloria Stewart, Jimmy Smits, Bod Cort Court, Peter Stormer and Amanda Plammer. The film stops to the dead whenever they take the focus. Any scene in which they gather around a red billiard table and endlessly as if it were a bad improvisation.

Another big problem that is about almost the weapon is the bad difference close to Davis, and it is a good but not completely suitable for Tom Tom’s role.

Davis whisper, the submerged narration makes translations. It really says something that enables the film to overcome the lack of a strong hero – it is actually a wonderful slow Gibson burning and the excellent Juvenic performance to carry this.

To be clear, Davis can be unusual (just take a look at his work in “Special Rescue Ryan”, “Black Phone”, “Solaris” and “Rescue Dawn”) but his performance here, as much as it reflects the fun spirit of the movie, comes across As one note.

However, Davis’s scenes with JOVOVICH are beautiful, as innocence and naivety appear from the characters.

The eccentric film Winsers, brave and difficult, especially the way it changes in the show of species: This movie is through a love story, the mystery of killing and experimental drama, emerging like a movie from the seventies.

The occasional nature helps, because the scenes that are not followed by those that have been struck hard. There is always another wonderful scene coming, but this requires the masses to be patient enough to overcome excessive moments.

A “million dollar hotel” tests your chest capacity, but in the end, it rewards it.

As in Richard Kelly “South Land” to some extent (both in her reputation and her refusal to play them safely), the first hour leads to a third behavior when everything comes together. In fact, both films are concluded with a ceremony and a final disclosure that changes the game.

The best scenes look like Edward Hopper’s paintings (as was the case of the wonderful “end of violence” from 1997). This is a mysterious and full of vitality such as “Paris, Texas” (1984), but unlike Winsers masterpiece in 1991, “Until the end of the world”, which appeared late with a 5 -hour exit that saved a distorted version, “a million dollar hotel” can lose 15 minutes and a stronger job shows.

In 100 minutes, it might seem to be one of the best in Winsers, instead of a two -hour wonder that he is felt by very many characters but is still full of amazing pictures and influential moments.

Perhaps the idea of making the hotel a miniature image of America exceeds (if this is the idea here). Unlike the most famous Wenders works, there may be a lot of movies here.

However, Winsers, along with Terins Malek, is one of the few films makers who make me wandering out to watch the sunset and find time to stare at the night sky. His films are physical and photographic trips and trips to the unknown with characters that seem less like real people and the most similar characters that were prepared in poems and love songs.

His films are serious, in love with life, curiosity about human nature and wonder. I can remember the moments in “The Million Dollaar Hotel” to which I can live without, but I also inform the fatwy and last strong moments that make the mistakes worth it.

For adventurous filmmakers, Winsers anomalous love story was delayed for re -discovery.
