A look ahead to the major events topping the news agenda next week, from the Foresight News team.

Leadership of the week

All indications now indicate that the ceasefire and hostage/prisoner exchange agreement between Hamas and Israel is moving forward. Sunday (January 19). The first hours and days of the agreement will dominate international news next week, with the release of more hostages and the return of internally displaced Gazans, set to begin amid what is likely to be a fragile ceasefire.

Monday (January 20): Donald Trump was inaugurated for a second term as President of the United States; Chris Whitty, Jonathan Van-Tam and Jenny Harries on Covid Inquiry; Axel Rodacobana’s trial for the Southport murders begins.

Tuesday (January 21): The trial begins before the Supreme Court in the Prince Harry phone hacking case sun; Alexis Jay at a Home Affairs Committee hearing on implementing IICSA recommendations; Volodymyr Zelensky, Ursula von der Leyen and Olaf Scholz are among the speakers in Davos.
