Mandy Moore shuts down critics after sharing GoFundMe for family

Mandy Moore, whose home has been affected by the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires, is asking critics to “please stop” after she shared a GoFundMe campaign to help her family members who lost their home.

“With their first child arriving in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever,” Moore wrote in the caption of the post. “Griff is a touring musician who also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion instruments that he uses to make a living. It’s all a lot. Many have asked how they can help during this unimaginably difficult time…please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild.” ”

Moore then included a message directed at those criticizing her decision to participate in her family’s fundraiser.

“And people wonder if we’re helping our families or crediting some arbitrary sum of money that Google says someone isn’t helpful or compassionate about,” she wrote about her own finances. “Of course we are.”

“Our friend Matt started this GoFundMe and I’m sharing it because people have asked how they can help,” Moore added. “We lost most of our lives in a fire, too.”

The actress then concluded her comment with a direct message to critics: “Please, no one is forcing you to do anything.”

The GoFundMe campaign has since raised more than $200,000 — and the organizer has disabled more donations as of Saturday, January 12.

“In the last 24 hours, we’ve raised more than anyone could have imagined. This community has completely blown us away; I’m speechless,” an update on the page read.

Moore’s letter to critics comes just days after she revealed the extent of the damage to her home in an Instagram post, noting that she, her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, and their three children still own “the main part of our home.”

“We were able to park the car and walk down our street to witness all the loss. Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now,” Moore wrote on social media. “It’s not livable but it’s mostly intact. We lost Taylor and Griffin’s studio with every tool and piece of equipment they ever owned. We lost our garage and our back house.”

She added: “Everyone we know has lost everything. Every house on our street is gone. My husband, my brother and my sister-in-law – 6 weeks after welcoming their first child.” “Our best friends. Weird survivor’s guilt. We love this community and will do whatever we can to help rebuild and support. Thank you everyone for checking in on us and helping us. Altadena is strong.”
