American actress and singer Mandy Moore has responded to backlash from critics who asked if she was helping her in-laws financially, after she shared a Los Angeles fire relief fundraiser on social media.

The 40-year-old was among those who lost part of her home in Eaton’s second-largest fire, which also burned down her children’s school.

Popular restaurants were also “flattened” in the nearly 14,000-acre fire in Altadena.

While revealing the extent of the damage to her home and neighborhood on Instagram, Moore posted a photo GoFundMe page For her brother and sister-in-law, whose house was destroyed by fire.

“My brother-in-law and sister-in-law Griff and Kate lost their home and everything they owned in the Eaton fire,” she wrote.

“With their first child due to arrive in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever.

“Griff is a touring musician who also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion instruments that he uses to make a living.

“It’s all a lot. Many have asked how to help during this unimaginably difficult time… Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild.”

The initial campaign attempted to raise £49,000, but it has since raised more than £163,000 for the couple.

But the star faced backlash for sharing the campaign, with critics stating that the star should donate her own money before sharing projected net worth figures online.

In updating the comment on the post, Moore wrote: “And people asking if we are helping our family or crediting some arbitrary amount of money that Google says someone has is not helpful or compassionate.

“Of course we are. Our friend Matt started this GoFundMe and I’m sharing it because people have asked how they can help.

“We just lost most of our lives in a fire too. Please shut down. No one is forcing you to do anything.”

Moore also shared the damage to her home due to the wildfires on Instagram.

“Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It’s unlivable but mostly intact,” she wrote.

“We lost our garage and our back house. Everyone we knew lost everything. Every house on our street is gone.”

She also posted a video of her neighborhood as her family was evacuated, where she said she was “in shock and numb to all that so many have lost.”

Among those affected by the bushfires was This Is Us co-star Milo Ventimiglia, who lost the home he shared with his wife, Jara Mariano, who is due to give birth soon.

The 47-year-old said: “I have never lost my life by imitating art.”

He was referring to the fate of his This Is Us character, who suffers from smoke inhalation after his house burns down.
