Mandy Moore applauds amid backlash for sharing GoFundMe campaign for in-laws who lost their home in California fires
While wildfires still burn in California, Mandy Moore’s neighborhood in Altadena has been destroyed. Two days ago, in an Instagram post, Mandy shared that she and her family had to evacuate their home amid the chaos.
She shared video footage of the devastation in her area, with smoke filling the sky and homes burning to the ground, with only charred remains remaining.
“I love you, Altadena. Grateful for my family and pets who came out last night before it was too late (and endless gratitude for the friends who hosted us and brought us clothes and blankets),” she wrote in her post. mail.
“Honestly, I’m in shock and numb to everyone who has lost so much, including my family. My kids’ school is gone. Our favorite restaurants have been flattened.”
“So many friends and loved ones have lost everything too. Our community is broken but we will be here to rebuild together. Sending love to all those affected and on the front lines trying to get this situation under control.”
Then, a day ago, Mandy informed everyone by saying that the main part of her house had not somehow burned down, but it was not a structure that she and her family could currently live in due to the damage to it.
The back of her house and her garage were completely gone. Her husband, musician Taylor Goldsmith, lost the studio and all the equipment and instruments inside it.
Mandy emphasized the level of loss by saying everyone she knew lost everything in the fires, and she feels guilty about it.
Every house on her street has been destroyed, and her brother and sister-in-law, who are only six weeks away from giving birth to their first child, have also lost their home.

She then shared a link to the GoFundMe page for her husband Griff and Kit’s family, writing that they need “support now more than ever” in light of their baby on the way. Griff is also a musician, and his instruments were destroyed by fire.
Mandy quickly received backlash for sharing the fundraiser, with people angry that she would ask her non-millionaire followers to donate money.
It got so bad that she turned off comments, then issued a statement in response.
“And people who ask if we are helping our family or crediting some arbitrary amount of money that Google says someone is not being helpful or compassionate,” Mandy responded with applause.
“Of course we are. Our friend Matt started this GoFundMe, and I’m sharing it, because people have asked how they can help. We’ve lost most of our lives in a fire, too.”
Mandy kept saying: Take a walk if you feel like it because no one is “making you do anything.”
