Mandy Moore applauds after asking for donations for her family amid the Los Angeles wildfires
Actress Mandy Moore has responded savagely to those criticizing her decision by asking her followers to donate money to her relatives after the Los Angeles wildfires affected their home.
Mandy Moore explained on Instagram the impact of the Los Angeles wildfires on her home, writing: “Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now.
“It’s not livable but it’s mostly intact. We lost Taylor and Griffin’s studio with all the machinery and equipment they ever owned. We lost our garage and our back house.”
Mandy Moore shared a link GoFundMe A page for her brother and his wife, where they were asking for $60,000 in total donations to help them rebuild their home in the wake of the Los Angeles wildfires. The total amount of donations raised now exceeds $200,000.
She wrote: “Yesterday, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law Griff and Kate lost their home and everything they owned in the Eaton fire. With their first child due in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever.”
She continued: “Griff is a touring musician who also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussions that he uses to make a living. It’s all a lot. Many have asked how to help during this unimaginably difficult time… Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild.”
However, after the post, she received a significant amount of backlash from her followers who were confused as to why she would ask her followers to donate to her family when she herself is very wealthy. One follower commented angrily: “You can’t help them? Are you millionaires????
Following widespread criticism, Mandy responded, asking people to “come out nicely” and telling them they “don’t have to do anything”.
“And people who ask if we’re helping our families or allocating an arbitrary amount of money Google says someone isn’t helpful or compassionate,” she replied. “Of course we are.”
“Our friend Matt started this GoFundMe and I’m sharing it because people have asked how they can help. We’ve lost most of our lives in a fire too. Please F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”
