After fleeing the raging wildfires that devastated the Altadena neighborhood in Los Angeles, Mandy Moore and her family took shelter with friend singer and actress Hilary Duff. Moore’s brother-in-law, Doz drummer Griffin Goldsmith — her brother-in-law, Doz singer Taylor Goldsmith — revealed the kind gesture in an emotional Instagram post detailing the toll the deadly fires have taken on his family.
“This is all so overwhelming. But what is no less amazing is the amount of love and generosity we are receiving. Our dear friends @Matheokuma and @HilaryDuff I thought it would be wise to set up a gofundme for us to help move forward. “Not to mention that they currently inhabit my brother’s family,” Goldsmith wrote about it How I met your father The star and her husband, musician Matthew Koma.
“They have taken care of my entire family from the moment this started,” he added. “I will never be able to thank them enough. This is the kindest thing any human being can do for another. They are the most beautiful, selfless people we have ever known.
Griffin Goldsmith’s post also noted that he convinced his entire family and close friends to move to the Altadena neighborhood years ago — including the siblings’ parents, who lived nearby — only to have their homes leveled in fires that claimed 16 lives. He lives in that area where the massive Eaton Fire continues to burn, having burned more than 14,000 acres so far.
“It is impossible to express how much we feel now. We have lost everything. 8 years of memories made in our home. 20 years of gear. My wife @quintessentiallykit “He was putting the finishing touches on the nursery for our baby boy who is due to be born in a few weeks,” Griffin wrote. “Over the years, she has poured her heart and soul into making the property a literal piece of heaven. As anyone who has had the opportunity to visit can attest. We often say to each other: I want to live together in this house for the rest of our lives.”
He said the brothers’ parents lost their home, while Taylor and Mandy had to flee their home down the street. In addition, he said his wife’s childhood best friend, Chelsea, and her family, former Dawes bassist Willie Gelber and his wife and their first crew member and longtime friend, Jake, all lost their homes as well. He added: “What we mourn most is the loss of the community.”
