Lamin Yamal insisted Barcelona “doesn’t care” who plays in the Spanish Super Cup final after their victory over Athletic Bilbao.
The 17-year-old scored Barcelona’s second goal in a two-goal win, setting up a final on Sunday in which they will play the winner of Thursday night’s semi-final between Real Madrid and Mallorca.
“We don’t care who we play against in the final,” Yamal said after the match. “We have to come back with the title.
“Riyadh is a very physical team. We suffered at the end of the first half, but we knew how to play the game.”
Javi gave Barcelona the lead in the 17th minute before Yamal added the second goal seven minutes after the end of the first half, while Inaki Williams’ late goal for Athletic Club was ruled out moments later by the video assistant referee, after the referee ruled out Oscar de Marcos’ goal. Hansi Flick substituted Yamal in the 63rd minute for Fermin Lopez, but the Barcelona coach played down the possibility of injury.
“I know you are always watching Lamin, but we have a team and players that need attention,” Flick said. “He came from an injury and we needed to replace him after 60 or 65 minutes.”
The Catalan club won the tournament 14 times, more than any other team, but lost 4-1 to Real Madrid in last season’s final.
