King Charles: Auschwitz anniversary trip ‘very important’
British King Charles III described his decision marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau as “extremely important.”
Goldberg, 94, who survived concentration camps, including Stutthof, and a death march as a boy, said the first thing the king mentioned was the trip, saying it was “official now” after Buckingham Palace had announced it earlier.
“I feel like I should go celebrate the 80th anniversary, [it’s] “Very important,” the king later told the elderly survivor who visits schools to give first-hand accounts of the Holocaust, and described it as “very special.”
Buckingham Palace said that ahead of the event next Monday, Charles will meet with members of the local community in Krakow and Polish President Andrzej Duda.
