Julia Ormond speaks at the Wellness Summit in Siquijor

British actress Julia Ormond He will lead a group of speakers at the Hearth Summit Philippines in Siquijor this month, a group that also includes a Filipino dramatist Monique Wilson.

The “First Knight” and “Legends of the Autumn” star, who is also a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador, is known for her social activism and humanitarian work in the fight against slavery and human trafficking.

Sokijor will host the Summit on Wellbeing and Social Transformation from January 14 to 17, with the picturesque island destination serving as a tranquil backdrop for the talks.

Ormond, founder and president of the non-profit Alliance to Stop Slavery and End Trafficking (ASSET), was one of the women who sued Hollywood megastar Harvey Weinstein for sexual assault and battery.

She also filed a complaint in court against Weinstein’s employers, The Walt Disney Company and Miramax, as well as the Creative Artists Agency (CAA), for enabling his vile acts.

Ormond was a rising star in the 1990s when she stopped working. She returned to the screen through the hit HBO film “Iron Jawed Angel” in 2004 with Hilary Swank and Anjelica Huston. She is scheduled to speak on the final day of the summit on January 17.

Wilson will speak on the first day of the Hearth Summit in the Philippines on January 14. Although she gained fame as a West End actress, she has also been active in the social movement through her One Billion Rising initiative, which seeks to end violence against women.

Wilson will be joined on the first day of the summit by Cultural Center of the Philippines Artistic Director Chris Mellado and Food and Beverage Consultant Michelle Adriana.

Political activist and actress May Banner, also known as Joanna Chang, will speak on January 15, along with artist and activist Jethro Patalinghog, and activist and former lawmaker Lisa Mazza.

Also speaking at the summit will be Negro artist Raz Salvaria, poet and human rights advocate Adora Faye de Vera, content creator Boogie Babiera, Emmy Award-winning makeup artist and producer Gaby Pascua, Diwata Project founder Corinna Melado, educator Leah Tolentino, and Scarletbox.io founder Sherri Gotwako.
