Ja Morant hits a wild one-handed dunk on Victor Wembanyama…that wasn’t in the cards
Ja Morant dropped what could be his best dunk of the season on Wednesday night in San Antonio.
The only problem the Memphis Grizzlies star had, and one that Victor Wimpanyama capitalized on greatly, was that the dunk wasn’t technically a consideration.
Morant was driving around the wing and drew a foul late in the fourth quarter of the Grizzlies’ win over the Spurs on Wednesday. Morant very clearly committed the foul while still on the 3-point line, so everything that happened after the whistle wasn’t taken into account.
But neither Morant nor Wembanyama stopped. Morant continued to rush to the rim, crashing into the 7-foot-3 star. Expertly, Morant got up and delivered a wild one-handed dunk over an outstretched Wembaanyama, sending the Grizzlies’ bench into disarray.
Just watch:
The still shot from under the basket is somehow better than the video.
Morant finished with 21 points and 12 assists in the Grizzlies’ 129-115 win over the Spurs, bringing his tally to 25-16 this season. This is their ninth consecutive win over Tottenham as well. Desmond Payne added 21 points, and Santi Aldama added 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Wembanyama scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Spurs. Stephon Castle led them with 26 points, and Devin Vassell added 21 points. They sit at 19-20 on the year, losing four of their last five games.
And even though it doesn’t technically count in the book, Morant is still credited with one of the best posters of his career. The two teams will bring the game back on Friday night at Frostbank Centre, where they are sure to give it one more shot before the whistle blows.
