I told my 15-year-old daughter that ‘all women have vibrators,’ says Naomi Watts as she talks about the hell of menopause
Actress Naomi Watts has told how she became the painful aunt to Hollywood celebrities after sharing the hell of menopause with them.
In a revealing new book, she says she developed a love for sex toys and had to use an HRT patch before she could get playful with her new partner.
The Oscar-nominated King Kong star tells how her 15-year-old daughter discovered she had bought a new, “excellent” vibrator that glows “in the dark and has multiple speeds.”
“I felt afraid”
Naomi, 56, writes: “One night I was in the mood but alone, so when I got out of the shower I went to bed with my new rose vibrator.
“I realized it had a sucking effect, so I decided to try it on my nipple.
“I know it’s not common to engage in foreplay with yourself. But on this particular night, I decided to take my time with myself.
“Well, everything went well.
“Then, I put the rose back in the box and then left it next to me, as if we were going to have a pillow talk after sex.
“the the next In the morning, my 15-year-old son came and saw the box and said, “Mom!”
I said, “All women have vibrators, and you can get them now at Urban Outfitters.”
But I felt afraid. “On top of that, my nipples were throbbing all day.”
British-born Naomi opened up about her sexuality and sexual desire in the book Dare I Say It: Everything I Wish I Knew About Menopause.
In an excerpt from the book published in The Times, Naomi tells how she discovered she was in early menopause with night sweats, then brain fog and dry skin, when she was 36.
“She was so open about her battles that other women approached her for advice and encouraged her to write her book.
Naomi writes: “I’ve always been reluctant to jump on the platform.
“But talking about menopause requires us to be honest and loud. One of the funniest things that’s happened as a result: Random celebrities have been texting me regularly to tell me they’re menopausal.
She and her first husband, actor Liev Schreiber, 57, needed fertility treatment to have their two children. After their separation, she lost sexual desire.
When Naomi finally started getting playful with co-star Billy Crudup, 56, whom she later married, she tried – and failed – to hide her HRT patch.
“Hey, if it makes you feel better, I have gray hairs on my balls,” Billy said.
