Germany: Bus accident leaves two dead
Berlin –
Police said that a bus accident on a highway in northeastern Germany on Saturday killed two people and seriously injured four others.
The German news agency reported that the accident occurred at an exit from the A11 highway leading to a parking lot near an intersection near Prenzlau, northeast of Berlin. Seven people were slightly injured.
The bus ended up on its side. No other vehicles are believed to be involved, and it was not immediately clear what caused the accident, which occurred in wintry conditions. The two dead were a 29-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man.
Brandenburg state police spokeswoman Betty Kardels said the bus operated by Flixbus, Germany’s dominant long-distance bus company, was headed toward Poland.
The company said that it was on its way from Berlin to the Polish city of Szczecin, on a trip approximately 150 kilometers long, with 13 passengers and a driver on board.
