German League: Leon Goretzka’s brace helps Bayern Munich win with seven goals

Leon Goretzka scored a brace to lead Bayern Munich, the leaders of the German League, to defeat its guest Wolfsburg 3-2 on Saturday, moving it seven points ahead of defending champion Bayer Leverkusen. Goretzka, who has thrived under Bayern coach Vincent Kompany this season, fired a stunning low shot across goal to open the scoring in the 20th minute. Wolfsburg responded against the run of play with a simple goal from Mohamed Amoura shortly after. The Bavarian giants regained control of the match before the end of the first half, as Michael Olise, in the starting line-up before Jamal Musiala recovered, completed a smooth team move.

Then Goretzka added his second goal in the 62nd minute, heading in a free kick taken by Olise.

Amora scored two minutes from time to give Wolfsburg hope, but the visitors were unable to break through and remained winless in 32 matches against Bayern in Munich, 30 of which were defeats.

Leverkusen can reduce the gap with Bayern to four points if it wins when it hosts Borussia Mönchengladbach later on Saturday.

Leipzig squandered a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with its host, modest Bochum, as the host team’s player, Myron Boadu, scored three goals in 13 minutes in the second half.

Leipzig played without suspended strikers Benjamin Sisko and Luis Opinda, but had no trouble scoring early, as Willy Orban, Antonio Nosa and Christoph Baumgartner put the visitors 3-0 ahead after just 21 minutes.

Relegation favorites Bochum were in trouble but Dutch striker Boadu took charge and scored twice from open play before scoring an equalizer from a penalty kick in the 61st minute to level the score.

Stuttgart took advantage of Leipzig’s slip and crushed its rival Freiburg 4-0, jumping from fourth place to fourth place.

Stuttgart’s Anthony Rouault and Ermidin Demirovic headed in a header from Angelo Stiller’s corner to put the hosts ahead within 17 minutes.

Nick Voltimadi scored from a penalty kick in stoppage time of the first half, and German striker Deniz Undav scored ten minutes before the end of the match, as Stuttgart achieved its third victory in a row.

Hoffenheim made up for its 5-0 loss to Bayern last Wednesday, winning 3-1 at host Holstein Kiel, moving it three points clear of the relegation places.

St. Pauli also moved three points clear of the relegation places with a 2-0 win over Heidenheim.
