A German DJ has gone viral on social media after he stopped a concert in Adelaide, South Australia, to protest in front of the audience and call out their behaviour.
News.com.au reported that Hofstadt – who also performs using the name DJ Daddy Trance – was performing at the city’s Wildlands Festival Last weekend when he stopped his set midway through to give the crowd instructions to improve their behavior.
Video footage of the concert shows Hofstadt telling his audience:
“As much as I love you all, and as sick as it is to play with you guys, it seems pretty loud out there.
“This is not a compliment. Everyone drink some water, take care of each other and calm down a bit.
“I know it’s very beautiful but let’s calm down a little.”
In the aftermath of the incident, Hofstadt posted on Instagram His point is that he noticed that Australian crowds displayed more worrying behavior than those in his native Europe.
He said:
“One thing I really noticed at all these festivals is people passing out.
“I know being crazy and doing drugs and stuff is fun, I’ve been there and done that, but to create a safer space on the dance floor, there are some things that need to be in place.
“One is safe drug use and being careful with each other. I’ve seen a lot of people pass out, really young people pass out.”
“Maybe it’s time to educate yourself about what these drugs can do to you. For me, it’s not fun to see people pass out during filming and get carried away by security.
“It’s also not fun to stop my music because someone in the middle can’t get out of the crowd.
“I think do a little less. Men drink some water, do less, and walk longer, not faster.
“It can be really dangerous.”
Australia is a popular hub for DJ festivals, with tickets across the country selling well for visiting artists. News.com.au reports that following Hofstadt’s posts, Australian musician Remy Ondre said on TikTok:
“Obviously we don’t get a lot of international artists to Australia very often, I get that, we’re all excited. I also realize that drugs aren’t very good here, so people feel like they have to smash more of it.
“But it’s gotten to the point where the DJ has to stop his set…it’s very embarrassing.
