French Authorities Rescue Ledger Co-Founder and His Wife After Kidnapping for Crypto Ransom: Report

The co-founder of hardware wallet company Ledger and his wife were reportedly rescued by French authorities after they were kidnapped and held for ransom.

According to new condition By The New York Times, Dave Baland and his wife were kidnapped from their home in France earlier this week by bad actors who then contacted another founder of the company and demanded a large amount of crypto for their release.

The report says Balland was found and released by police on Wednesday about 30 miles from his home while his wife was found 80 miles away in a car a day later.

His wife was incapacitated but Balland had to be hospitalized because his hand was mutilated by the kidnappers – a photo of which was used to press the ledger in the ransom payment.

In the report, Paris prosecutor Laure Picau said that during the negotiations, some ransoms were paid but the assets were traced, frozen and seized.

Nine men and a woman, aged between 20 and 40, were arrested and questioned about the kidnapping, although no further details about the suspects have been released. In the report, Bekoa says the crimes of kidnapping, torture and armed extortion carry potential sentences.
