Liverpool and Accrington Stanley are set to meet in the third round of the FA Cup tomorrow in what is expected to be an interesting football match at Anfield.
Arne Slott is set to take charge for his first game in the competition and will be looking to put the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur behind him with a convincing win.
While the outcome looks like a foregone conclusion on paper – due to the class gap between the two sides – the magic of the cup has seen many giant killings over the years, so Liverpool will have to be wary of that.
Here’s how they’re expected to line up in the game as Slot rings in the changes.
Defense
Alisson Becker was in goal for Tottenham in the Carabao Cup semi-final, but Caoimhin Kelleher is set to replace him between the sticks at Anfield tomorrow.
Connor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas are set to continue in defence, but Liverpool’s centre-back duo tomorrow could be worth keeping an eye on.
Slott has confirmed that Jarrell Quansah has recovered from his illness and the Englishman should be named in the starting lineup if all goes to plan.
With Joe Gomez injured and Ibrahima Konate still regaining full fitness, there is little pressure on Virgil van Dijk to start another game.
However, we believe the Dutchman will get a much-needed rest, with Amara Nallou making his debut for the club.
Barry Lotas has described Nalo as an “excellent” talent and the youngster will look to give Anfield fans a glimpse of his huge potential if he gets some minutes tomorrow.
Midline
The likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis McAllister and Curtis Jones are set to be rested, so Wataru Endo is expected to start as a number six, having filled in as a centre-back after Kwansah was substituted against Tottenham.
Harvey Elliott is also looking to start, and we feel the 21-year-old will get his second start of the season tomorrow, while Trey Nyonyi is also set to be given another chance to impress after his performance against Southampton in the Carabao Cup. .
Dominik Szoboszlai has returned to contention after recovering from illness, but it remains to be seen if he will get any minutes tomorrow as he has only trained with the Under-21s so far.
attacks
Darwin Nunes is suspended for the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest and did not start against Tottenham, so he becomes an obvious choice to lead the line tomorrow.
Federico Chiesa is also expected to make only his second start of the season, and the Italian will be looking to make an impact as speculation surrounding his future continues to dominate the back pages.
Mohamed Salah could be rested as he has played almost every game this season, while the same goes for Cody Jacobo.
Diogo Jota started against Tottenham and is slowly working back to full fitness, but we believe Luis Diaz will start on the left wing, after being named to the bench for the Carabao Cup tie in midweek.
The likes of Jayden Danes and Rio Ngomoha are expected to be on the bench and Anfield fans could enjoy their appearance if the result is no doubt in the second half.
