Police and local authorities said that at least 37 people were killed and dozens were injured in a crash that included two buses in the western Potosi area of Bolivia.
The accident occurred on Saturday at 7 am local time (11:00 GMT) on the road between the cities of Ayoni and Colashani, when one of the vehicles deviated to the next corridor.
Uyuni is the Salaar De Uyuni Gate, a major tourist attraction and the largest salt apartment in the world more than 10,000 square kilometers (3900 square meters).
“As a result of this deadly incident, 39 people were injured in four hospitals in the town of Ayoni, and 37 people lost their lives,” Potosi Police spokesman told reporters.
The spokesman added that the police officers are working to identify the people who were killed and those who were injured and hospitalized.
One of the buses was heading to Aururo, where she is currently taking place one of the most important carnival celebrations in Latin America.
Police officers removed the survivors from the steel wreck, according to the photos called Radio Ayoni, which showed several bodies covered with blankets that move through the high flat lands.
A police spokesman said that one of the drivers, who survived the accident, was seen by passengers who consume alcohol.
