Donald Trump pledges to issue executive order to restore TikTok

US President-elect Donald Trump revealed his plan to temporarily ban a nationwide ban on TikTok, hours after the short-video app was shut down in compliance with a federal law aimed at forcing the app to cut ties with Chinese parent company ByteDance.

Just one day before his inauguration in Washington, Trump said on Sunday that he would issue an executive order shielding from liability any company that hosts or distributes TikTok, activity that became illegal when the recall or ban law went into effect earlier this year. today.

The incoming president also called for a final solution that would give a US entity 50 percent ownership of TikTik.

“I am asking companies not to allow TikTok to remain dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the ban imposed by the law goes into effect, so we can reach an agreement to protect our national security.”

“The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped prevent TikTok from going dark prior to my order,” he added.

“I would like the United States to have 50 percent ownership in a joint venture,” he said. “By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands, and allow it to express itself. Without US approval, there would be no TikTok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars, perhaps trillions.”
