Colm Meaney receives a lifetime achievement honor from the Irish Academy

Irish actor Colm Meaney (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, In the land of saints and sinnersThe Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) said on Friday that the actor will receive an Irish Academy Lifetime Achievement Award “for his outstanding contribution to the Irish and international screen industry”.

“To say I was surprised when I heard the news that IFTA wanted to give me this award would be an understatement. I was truly shocked,” Meaney said. “Being asked to join such a long list of such prestigious past winners is a huge honour, and I am very pleased and looking forward to a good night out in Dublin.” ”

IFTA praised his career, which spanned five decades, noting that it had seen him “work with celebrated filmmakers, including John Huston, Robert Redford, Michael Mann, Jim Sheridan, Neil Jordan, Alan Parker, Warren Beatty, and Ron Howard, and alongside Actors such as Al Pacino, Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, Bruce Willis, Anjelica Huston, Hugh Grant, Nicholas. Cage, John Malkovich, Julie Walters, Brian Cox, Samuel L. Jackson, James Caan, Burt Reynolds, Patrick Stewart, and Michael Gambon, to name a few.

Meaney will receive the award at the 22nd IFTA Awards, which will be held on Friday 14 February at the Royal Dublin Convention Centre. IFTA nominations for 2025 will be revealed on Tuesday 14 January.

Meaney has also guest starred on television shows such as Law and order and The Simpsons.
