Paramount Pictures names Courtney D. Armstrong COO

Courtney D. Armstrong has been promoted to chief operating officer of the studio’s Paramount Pictures business.
He fills the position left by Andrew Gumpert, who left Paramount in February 2023. We understand that Armstrong’s ascension to COO was always part of the succession plan for Armstrong, who has been with the Melrose Avenue franchise for three years. Armstrong was previously the studio’s head of business and administration, controlling those areas of live action and animation production, as well as leading Paramount’s business development team.
Armstrong will continue to report to Paramount Pictures President and CEO Brian Robbins. In his new role, Armstrong will oversee all day-to-day operations across business affairs and legal, as well as business development, for the studio’s live events, animation and studio portfolio divisions.
Armstrong joined Paramount Pictures in 2021 from Warner Bros. Pictures, where he had been CEO since 2003, most recently as Executive Vice President, Global Business Affairs. During his tenure at Warner Bros., he was instrumental in numerous successes including Wonder Woman, Dunkirk, The Dark Knight trilogy, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grinewald, The Lego Batman Movie, Justice League, Joker, and Ocean’s 8 And many more.
Prior to joining Warner Bros., Armstrong was an attorney in the Business and Legal Department of the Motion Picture Group at Walt Disney Pictures. Prior to that, he was a litigation associate on the entertainment litigation team at Paul Hastings, LLP.
Armstrong graduated from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law and received an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
