Athletic Club striker Inaki Williams finds VAR rules strange amid Barcelona’s defeat

Athletic Bilbao striker Iñaki Williams

Iñaki Williams, the Athletic Bilbao striker, expressed his frustration and disappointment with the refereeing in the match that his team lost to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final.

The Ghana international’s 86th-minute goal was disallowed after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, which found it bizarre and unfair.

Williams criticized VAR’s decision, stating that it did not comply with the rules.

“I find it strange that these kind of plays are cancelled. I don’t think it’s fair,” he said in a post-match interview.

The striker also pointed out that refereeing standards were not applied consistently throughout the match. He added: “It seems that the rules are not the same for everyone.”

Barcelona won the match 2-0, with two goals scored by Javi and Lamin Yamal, and will face the winner of the second semi-final match between Real Madrid and Real Mallorca in the final.
