Lamine Yamal and Javi scored two goals to lead Barcelona to victory over Athletic Bilbao to reach the Spanish Super Cup final.
Hansi Flick’s side got off to a bright start to the match, which was played at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Saudi Arabia, and took the lead in the 17th minute when Javi scored from an Alejandro Balde pass.
Teenager Yamal scored the second goal seven minutes into the second half when he received a chipped pass before Unai Simon went past.
Inaki Williams thought he had succeeded in reducing the difference in the last minute of regular time for the Athletic Club team, but the goal was disallowed due to offside.
Barcelona will face Real Madrid and Mallorca in the final on Sunday, who will play on Thursday.
The semi-final came too soon for Barcelona, with Dani Olmo and Pau Victor given temporary permission to register the duo by Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) earlier on Wednesday.
The players, both summer signings, were only registered for the first half of the season, as Barcelona were unable to meet La Liga’s wage cap restrictions.
On Saturday, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and La Liga rejected Barcelona’s application to register them.
However, the CSD intervened on Wednesday following an appeal by the club to grant a precautionary measure and allow the pair to play in the short-term.
They can now participate in the Super Cup final on Sunday.
