An anti-Semitism watchdog has accused tech billionaire Elon Musk of downplaying the Holocaust, after an ally of US President Donald Trump mocked his critics with a social media post filled with Nazi puns.
The owner of SpaceX, Tesla and X raised some eyebrows on Monday when he emotionally extended his right hand during a speech on Trump’s inauguration day. While some reacted to the gesture with playful expressions, others accused the Mongols of giving the Nazi salute.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) quickly condemned the businessman. “We have said it hundreds of times before and we will say it again: the Holocaust was a uniquely evil event, and it is inappropriate and insulting to belittle it.” ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt wrote on X on Thursday.
The ADL issued a separate statement saying this “Making inappropriate and highly offensive jokes that belittle the Holocaust only serves to trivialize the evil and inhumanity of the Nazi crimes, distort the suffering of victims and survivors alike, and insult the memory of the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust.”
The Jewish advocacy group previously defended Musk, noting that the billionaire had done so “He made an awkward gesture in a moment of excitement, not in a Nazi salute.”
