Actor James Woods’ home survived devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, while most of the buildings in his neighborhood were destroyed. Woods is among several actors who had to evacuate because their property was threatened by the fire that started last Tuesday.
“A miracle has happened. We have been able to gain access to our property and our home, which we were told was gone forever, is still standing,” Woods said in a post on X.
He added: “In this hellish scene, stopping is relative, but the smoke and other damage are not the same as the total destruction around us.”
Woods thanked people for the “beautiful messages” he had received since last Friday, and expressed his gratitude to those concerned for his safety. “Honestly, the whole area looks like the dark side of the moon,” he said.
Many celebrities, from Paris Hilton to Billy Crystal, have confirmed that their homes have been lost or damaged due to fires raging in and around Los Angeles.
Preity Zinta “Safe”
Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, who currently lives in Los Angeles, assured her fans on Sunday that she and her family are “safe” and expressed her gratitude to “God.”
“I never thought I would live to see a day when fires would destroy the neighborhoods around us in Los Angeles, as friends and families were evacuated or put on high alert, ash descended from a sky filled with fog like snow, fear and uncertainty about what would happen if the winds blew relentlessly with… The young children and grandparents are with us. I feel so sad about the devastation surrounding us and I feel grateful to God that we are safe so far,” the actress wrote on X.
Forest fires may worsen
Los Angeles County officials said Sunday that the death toll from wildfires has risen to 24. Many more are believed to be missing, and more than 12,300 structures were damaged or destroyed in six simultaneous wildfires that spread across the county.
The National Meteorological Directorate warned of deteriorating weather conditions in the future. Santa Ana winds are expected to strengthen and continue through Tuesday morning. They can bring sustained winds of up to 30 mph, and gusts of up to 70 mph.
